解説：東京大学の田中宏幸教授は、ミュオンの新しい応用として、測位技術μPSを応用したCosmo Smart Phoneを開発されました。今回は、μPSの特性をわかりやすく説明した文章を文字の大きさを変化させながら螺旋状に配置し、そこを通過する金の玉の粒で表現したミュオンが次第に減衰して小さくなっていく様子を描きました。この技術は、GPSが届かないトンネルの中や海底での遭難者の救済などに応用できるとのことです。
Professor Hiroyuki Tanaka of the University of Tokyo has developed a new application for muons called the Cosmo Smart Phone, which uses μPS positioning technology. In this version, text explaining the characteristics of μPS in an easy-to-understand manner is arranged in a spiral pattern with varying letter sizes, while muons—represented by gold spheres—gradually decay and become smaller as they pass through. This technology could be used to rescue people lost in tunnels or at the bottom of the sea, where GPS signals cannot reach.
